Meet Michael J. Miceli
Candidate for District Court Judge – Department 3
I was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey in 1980 and moved to Las Vegas with family in 1984.
I attended Will Beckley Elementary School, Jo Mackey 6th Grade Center, C.W. Woodbury Middle School, K.O. Knudson Middle School, and graduated from Valley High School in 1998. While in high school I got my first job at 16 years old working at Office Max in the copy center and I would later move to selling electronics.
I decided to stay in Las Vegas and enrolled in the Honors College at UNLV.
I joined the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity while in college. I held numerous offices including scholarship chairman, rush chairman, social chairman, and President. In 2001 I was named the top President in the nation for the fraternity.
While in college I continued working at Office Max until I was 19 when I joined Southern Nevada Teamster Local 631 and would work setting up conventions booths at the Convention Center. A year later I began working at the Motown Café in the New York New York as a busboy and food runner. After approximately one year there, the restaurant closed down after being sold to a new owner. I then began working at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse as a busboy and food runner. I worked at Ruth’s Chris until I began law school in 2003, however I was able to return during Christmas and summer break of my first year.
After graduating cum laude with a major in criminal justice and a minor in political science, I enrolled in the Boyd School of Law at UNLV and began in 2003. While in law school I worked for District Court Judge Michael Cherry, who went on to become Chief Justice of the Nevada Supreme Court. I also worked for the Federal Public Defender’s Office as a law clerk. I was responsible for conducting research and writing motions that would be submitted by the attorneys in court.
I graduated law school in 2006 and passed the bar exam that same year. I then began working for highly respected criminal defense and union attorney Thomas Pitaro. After approximately four years, our office merged with the Law office of Ozzie Fumo to create Pitaro & Fumo, which is where I still work to this day. While we specialize in criminal law, our office is highly involved in working with local labor unions. With the unions our office has dealt with negotiations, protective orders, and the setting up and facilitating of strikes.
About My Parents
My mother Jennifer was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1949, but was raised in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. In 1968, she moved to New York City and attended the New York Academy of Theatrical Arts where she met my father Jerry in 1969. My parents got married in 1970 and moved to New Jersey that same year. They opened an acting school and theatre in 1973 in New Jersey and it was open until 1976.
My father Jerry was born in 1939 in Italy, and came to New Jersey in 1963. He worked in a factory for about a year and then found a job in an architectural office as a draftsman until 1976 working between New Jersey and New York. After moving around several times, he got another job in New Jersey at an architectural office and worked there until 1984.
In 1984 my parents moved the family, including myself, my sister Juliette and my brother Patrick from New Jersey to Las Vegas where we have resided ever since.
In 1985 my mother graduated from the Las Vegas School of Design and has worked decorating houses ever since. My mother is also a published author, having four books published. In 2015 her novel “Captain Tom and Franny,” received several awards including the Fred Bonnie award for best first novel, and an award from the Hollywood Book Festival.
While in Las Vegas, my father worked for architectural offices until he received his architectural license in 1992, after which he opened his own business as an architect and is still working today.
